Quick answer: In your school dashboard, go to Product > Assignment, pick the product type tab, and click Details on the course. Click View Assignment next to a learner who has submitted. Enter the score and feedback on the Student Assignment screen, then click Publish Score to release it to the learner, or Save as Draft to keep it hidden for now.
Before you begin
Your role must be Owner, Admin, or Educator. All three can grade assignments.
The learner needs to have submitted. The Submission Status column shows Yes or No for each learner, and Submission Count shows how many times they have submitted.
How you enter the score depends on the assignment. An assignment with a rubric is scored per criterion. One without a rubric takes a single number. An assignment set to AI grading has no score field for you to fill at all.
A score is not visible to the learner until you publish it. Save as Draft keeps it hidden. Publish Score releases it.
How the grading setup changes what you see
Assignment setup | What the Student Assignment screen shows |
Manual grading, no rubric | A Grading Assignment section with an Input Score field and a Feedback editor. |
Rubric attached | A Grading By Rubric section with one score field per criterion. The Final Score is calculated from them. |
AI grading | No score field to fill in. A Grade with Smart AI button appears instead. |
The badge next to Final Score tells you where the score came from: Graded by Educator or Graded by Smart AI.
Step 1: Open your school dashboard
Log in to your school site and open the dashboard.
Step 2: Go to Product, then Assignment
From the dashboard, open the Product menu and select Assignment.
Step 3: Pick the product type tab
The assignment list is split into three tabs: Scheduled Session, Self-Paced, and Cohort. Click the tab matching the course you want. A tab with no assignments shows No data, so check the other tabs before assuming an assignment is missing.
Step 4: Open the course
Find the course in the list and click Details. Each row shows the course name and how many assignments it holds.
Step 5: Open a learner's submission
The Assignment Details screen lists the learners, with columns for Submission Status, Submission Count, Grading Status, Score, Assignment Name, Date Submitted, and Scored By.
Click View Assignment next to the learner you want to grade. To narrow a long list first, use the Select material name and Grading Status filters, or search by name.
Step 6: Review the submission
The Student Assignment screen opens. The learner's work is on the left, either as typed text or as a file you can Download. Click See Assignment to read the original instructions the learner was given.
If the learner has submitted more than once, use the Submission version dropdown on the right to pick which attempt you are grading.
Step 7: Enter the score and feedback
What you fill in depends on the assignment:
Without a rubric, the Grading Assignment section appears. Type the score into Input Score. The maximum is shown next to the field. Then write your comments in the Feedback editor, which supports formatting, links, lists, and images.
With a rubric, the Grading By Rubric section appears instead. Score each criterion one by one. Each criterion shows its own maximum and its Weight, and each has its own feedback box. The Final Score is calculated from those criteria, so you do not type a total. Click Show Score Definitions on a criterion to see what each score level means. A separate Notes field covers comments about the submission as a whole.
Step 8: Publish the score, or save it as a draft
Save as Draft stores your work without showing it to the learner. Use it when you want to come back, or to finish a whole batch before releasing anything.
Publish Score releases the score and feedback to the learner.
To move straight to the next learner without going back to the list, use the < and > arrows next to Learner's Name.
Step 9: Read the status of each learner
Status | What it means |
Not Graded Yet | The learner has submitted, but no score has been published. |
Passed | The published score reached the passing grade. |
Failed | The published score did not reach the passing grade, and the learner has no attempt left to retake. |
Pending | The published score did not reach the passing grade, and the assignment is waiting for the learner to retake it. |
Troubleshooting
Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
The course is not in the assignment list | The wrong product type tab is selected | Switch between Scheduled Session, Self-Paced, and Cohort. Each tab only shows its own courses, and an empty one reads No data. |
There is nothing to grade for a learner | Their Submission Status is No and Submission Count is 0 | Wait for the submission, or check the deadline set on the assignment. |
There is no Input Score field | The assignment uses a rubric, or it is set to AI grading | With a rubric, score each criterion instead and the total is calculated. With AI grading, there is no field to fill and Grade with Smart AI appears instead. |
The learner cannot see the score you entered | The score was saved as a draft, not published | Open the submission again and click Publish Score. |
The Grade with Smart AI button is missing | The assignment is not set to an AI grading mode | Open the assignment settings and select one of the AI options under Require Feedback and Grading. |
A learner failed and cannot try again | No maximum attempts were set, so there is no retake available | Open the assignment settings and use Set maximum attempts to allow more than one submission. |
Scores are published but nobody reaches Passed | No passing grade was entered | Open the assignment settings, check Set Passing Grade, and enter a number in Input passing grade. |
FAQ
Who can grade an assignment on Eduqat?
Owners, Admins, and Educators can all grade assignments.
What is the difference between Save as Draft and Publish Score?
Save as Draft keeps the score and feedback hidden from the learner, so you can come back to it later. Publish Score releases both to the learner. Nothing you enter reaches the learner until you publish.
The assignment has a rubric. How do I enter the score?
Score each criterion in the Grading By Rubric section. Each one carries its own maximum and Weight, and the Final Score is calculated from them, so you never type a total yourself.
Why is there no Input Score field?
Either the assignment uses a rubric, in which case you score each criterion instead, or it is set to AI grading, in which case there is no field for you to fill.
Why can I not see the Grade with Smart AI button?
It only appears when the assignment is set to an AI grading mode. On a manual assignment, you enter the score yourself.
How do I tell whether a score came from AI or from a person?
Look at the badge next to Final Score. It reads Graded by Educator or Graded by Smart AI.
A learner submitted twice. Which attempt am I grading?
Use the Submission version dropdown on the right of the Student Assignment screen to choose the attempt.
Do I have to go back to the list for every learner?
No. Use the < and > arrows next to Learner's Name to move between learners without leaving the screen.
What is the difference between Failed and Pending?
Both mean the published score fell below the passing grade. Pending means the learner still has a retake waiting. Failed means there is no attempt left, which is what happens when maximum attempts were not set.
Where do I set the passing grade?
On the assignment itself, not on the grading screen. In the course material editor, open Assignment Settings, check Set Passing Grade, and enter the number in Input passing grade.
